SUMMARY |
|
The development of the world economy has been sustained by trade relationships between companies located in different countries. While for many years these trade relationships took place regionally, they have evolved internationally as information technologies/information systems developed and as transport chains became integrated into companies’ logistics systems, thus originating long and complex supply chains linking the raw materials, parts and components markets that sustain the manufacturing process of goods with the wide range of consumer markets located worldwide. |
A supply chain is a network of companies and people producing and delivering a product or service. These companies and people’s networks include producers, warehouses, transport companies, distribution centres, and retailers. When these companies and people are located geographically apart, they become part of international supply chains. As a result, the management of international supply chains becomes more complex since it requires tight coordination of all those participating in it, mainly when the focus is to reduce the overall product costs, including those of logistics and lead times to meet market needs. |
This Masterclass will focus on the international supply chain structure. It will 1) investigate who is behind the trade; 2) how the international supply chain is structured, drawing attention to international infra- and superstructures; 3) address the international sales of goods and the role of incoterms; 4) elaborate on the international terms of payment; and 5) review the documents involved in international transactions. |
|
The MasterClass took place online via Zoom on 18 April, 2024 at 1500 - 1800 Lisbon | London time. It was taught in English. |
