| Ana Casaca is an experienced translator from English into Portuguese, specialising in the fields of Logistics / Supply Chain Management, Multimodality / Intermodality, Maritime Economics, Maritime Transport, Nautical Studies (Navigation and Seamanship), Seaports, and Shipbuilding. Over the years, she has carried out technical translations for Baxter Eadie Limited (United Kingdom) and the Associação Portuguesa de Logística (Portugal). In 2017, in cooperation with Leo Tadeu Robles, she translated the third edition of Maritime Economics, written by Martin Stopford. The book was published by Editora Blucher, São Paulo, Brazil. | Given the highly specialised scope of the translation areas mentioned above, computer-assisted translation tools are deliberately avoided. Ana prefers to translate on a word-by-word and statement-by-statement basis, as she believes this approach guarantees higher translation quality, even though it may require more time. To carry out her translation work, she applies a methodological and systematic approach. Firstly, she divides the project into structured sections in order to comply with the agreed delivery schedule. During the translation process, she builds a dedicated terminology database to ensure full consistency throughout the text. She also draws on her own database and an extensive personal library of reference materials, both in hard copy and electronic format, and undertakes additional research whenever no direct translation is available. |
| Tables and figures/graphs are carefully checked, together with their corresponding captions and legends. Depending on the nature of the work, she may choose to translate figures/graphs first, while tables are translated alongside the running text. Once the translation is completed, all sections are brought together for a full revision and final proofreading. At this stage, she reviews the overall coherence of the text, verifies the consistency of terminology, and corrects any spelling or typographical errors. The original formatting of the document is preserved, except in the case of book translations. The time required to complete a translation depends on the complexity of the source text. As a general guideline, the average daily output is approximately 2,000 words. |
