Tanker Shipping (Online Live Training & In-Class Programme)
 Overview
Tanker shipping is one of the most important segments of the overall shipping industry. It is responsible for the carriage of a large percentage of the energy that is consumed by the worldwide industry and population since it offers an economical and convenient way to carry liquid cargoes. Although the industry is claimed to operate under perfect competition, numerous market pressures of economic, safety and environmental nature constrain its operating environment. Subject to the above-mentioned market pressures the industry has become more regulated and become ‘safer’ for the crew, the cargo, and the environment. Moreover, the industry has witnessed technological advances that resulted in vessel specialisation. Currently, tanker vessels can carry specific liquid cargoes other than crude as it happened in the past and it was the first shipping segment to experience the increasing vessel size that it is currently being witnessed in other market segments.
The objective of this Course is to provide Participants with an insight into the commercial and operational aspects of the tanker industry, drawing Participants' attention to its peculiarities to improve their competencies and skills. At the end of this Course, Participants will be able to:
* Identify the different types of tanker ships;
* Learn about the maritime geography of tanker ships;
* Understand how the market works and its volatility;
* Understand the operational environment of the tanker industry;
* Identify the contractual arrangements and their main clauses;
* Learn about the costs incurred with tanker operations; and
* Understand the underpinning theories and practices of the industry.
